Yoga means union and implies a joining or completeness; integration.
Yoga Nidra is a unique combination of alert awareness and deepest relaxation. It takes you to the alpha and theta states of consciousness, far beyond ordinary waking consciousness. In these deep states, the mystical integrative powers of the mind and the higher centers of consciousness are released. This is the center where visions become reality, giving you direct access to the extraordinary powers of your own intuition, creativity, health and abundance.
There are many techniques for systematically bringing one into this state. Yoga Nidra is not merely a technique and much more than a relaxation exercise. Rather, it is a place, a space that can be entered through the techniques of breath and relaxation. Yoga Nidra is resting as Witness consciousness
Ordinary sleep is a static condition; Yoga Nidra is a dynamic state where you enter a state of oneness, but you also are alert and conscious. There, the individual is no longer a separate entity but has become one with cosmic consciousness. The wave is no longer a wave - it has merged into the ocean. Then you are simply and completely "I am that I am." You are no longer bound by your consciousness. The wave is no longer a wave - it has merged into the ocean. Then you are simply and completely "I am that I am. You are no longer bound by your identity as: "I am.…a wife, an executive, a failure, overweight, unhappy", and so on - all the labels that prevent you from knowing who you truly are.
The purpose of Yoga Nidra is to awaken the infinite potential that is dormant within you. During Yoga Nidra, your consciousness is expanded and experienced at an extremely deep level. In the experience of this psychic sleep, combined with inner awareness, you move into the vast abiding stillness, silence and presence of the Third Eye.
Yoga Nidra is the world of the Third Eye, the plane beyond the five senses. Once you learn how to enter this state, you gain access to a whole new perspective that cannot be obtained when you are functioning in the limited world of the time-space dimension. Only in this state can you shift from conflicting duality to the balancing power of polarity.
The role of practice is to open the Third Eye, which sees life at its deepest core. The two physical eyes look outward, where duality is confirmed; the single eye looks inward, where union takes place. Using two eyes, you are confined by the five senses, time, space, duality and polarity. You are blind to yourself. Only the Third Eye sees what is. This super-perception does not divide reality into bad or good, ugly or beautiful, or you and me, the way your personality does. Yoga Nidra brings freedom from opposites through choiceless awareness that takes no sides. It allows entrance to the center of integration where natural healing awakened spontaneously and effortlessly.
Clearing of Blocks
When the channels of energy are blocked, it is impossible to transmute energy into the higher levels of expression and integration. Yoga Nidra clears the pathways through which energy flows. Some obstructions may be imbalances of a physical nature. Acupuncture, pranayama, postures and other techniques can modulate the energies in the various meridians. Other subtle blocks are held deeper than the physical body, and are lodged in the mental and emotional bodies. Yoga Nidra has the power to work with all of these.
Creating the Passage to Integration
This simple practice has the capacity to help you realize miraculous mysterious powers hidden within you. Consistent practice will create integration, even if only for short periods in the beginning. With regular, continual practice, you will begin to operate from a more integrated awareness. You enter a magical plane - a whole new dimension of the world that cannot be perceived through the eyes, smelled through the nose, or heard through the ears.
It is a state of being.
In the absence of stress, tension, mental fragmentation and emotional reactions, harmony naturally emerges. Your home life, professional life, love life, and social relationships are all embraced and appreciated as they are. This allows you to extend the practice of Yoga Nidra into your everyday life. You can learn to experience peace and unity at any time.
